A Less Travelled Path: Where Internet Memes go to Die

10I’ve seen various blog awards out there and have never paid a lot of attention to them.  Most of the ones I know of personally, are related to “Top Such&Such Type of Blog”, where the readers of a specific blog vote and whoever comes out on top wins.

I remember Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom was nominated for a “Top Mom Blogs” award a year or so back.  There was a big kerfuffle over one of the other finalists making a snide comment about how a “Pagan Mom shouldn’t even be eligible” and other such nonsense.

My blog has been nominated by Neferet and Witchy_Girl respectively for awards that are really more in keeping with internet memes. I’d actually completely forgotten about the first one until I received the Liebster Award nomination this morning.

Way back in the day of email (and even paper mail) chain letters, I prided myself on being the last stop on their journey.  In my own little way, I believe it helps to keep down on spam and needless time sinks.

That said, I have always enjoyed the occasional fun internet meme that comes with no strings attached.  In the spirit of fun, I’m going to answer my bloggy award questions.  If you want to participate, feel free.  You can even leave me a link in the comments so that I can read your responses.

First up, the One Lovely Blog Meme:

This meme wants 7 random facts about me.  Here goes:

  1. I used to have pink hair.  I kept it pink for about 2 years.
  2. Last year was the first year that my hair has been all its natural colour since I was about 13.
  3. My first pendulum was a lead fishing weight given to me by my mom when I was about 10 or so.
  4. When I was younger, I wanted to be an animator for Walt Disney Studios.
  5. My first introduction to modern Paganism was through someone I met on the Riverdance guest book (pre-forum internet days).  I think her handle was Celtic Frog or something like that.
  6. My favourite word is frog in Gaelic.
  7. I’ve always been nervous of swimming in the ocean.

Next up is the Liebster (Dearest) Blog Meme.  This version of the meme wants 11 random facts and the answers to 11 questions.

The questions set out by Witchy_Girl are as follows:

  • Describe yourself in 11 words.

blond, pale, Canadian, cook, mother, lover, sister, counsel, dreamer, artist, Witch

  • What is your favourite way to relax?

Candle lit bubble bath with no one pounding on the door or whining through the key hole.

  • What does the term ‘Witch’ mean to you?

At the very core, a Witch is a person who casts spells and creates charms, potions and enchantments.  Regardless of what you believe, if you do the above things, you’re a Witch, plain and simple.

  • There is one slice of cake left at a tea party; do you take it?

Being as I am gluten intolerant, no.  Also, I’m not really a big fan of cake.

  • What is your favourite hot beverage?

Caramel apple cider

  • What is your occult related speciality?

Dream interpretation

  • Name something that made you laugh so hard you cried.

The “Damn You AutoCorrect” site.

  • What is your favourite food?

London Broil sandwich

  • What is your favourite perfume?

Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden.

  • What is your favourite film?

Practical Magic

  • If you could be anyone from history, who would it be and why?

I wouldn’t, actually.  There are plenty of historical people I would like to meet, but I’m happy being me.

Ok, that ends that bit.  The “rules” also want me to come up with 11 questions for the people I tag, but I’m not tagging anyone, so that whole issue seems moot.  But, I’ll tell you what – if you want to participate in either of these memes, post a comment here, and I’ll give you 5 unique questions of your own, deal?

Enjoy your day, folks!  LTP out.
